Fence Repair Tips

How to Bring an Old Fence Back to Life

If you are wondering how to perform fence repair on an old picket fence, then you have come to the right site, in the following post we have provided you with a few handy tips that you can try.

Here is what you will need

  • Water;

  • Bleach;

  • Dish Detergent;

  • Protective Gloves;

  • Ready Seal;

  • Pump Up Sprayer;

  • Paint Brush;

  • Paint Roller;

Step 1: Mix up water, bleach, and dish detergent, you will want to begin with a mixture of 70% water and 25% bleach, and just a touch of dish detergent.

Step 2: Put on your protective gloves before you use the pump-up sprayer, as this will be needed to spray the fence with the aforementioned mixture.

Note: If you fail to see the wood lighten, then strengthen the mixture by increasing the bleach to water percentage until the wood starts to lighten immediately after application.

Step 3: Leave the fence sit for around 20 minutes before you rinse it off with a hose. Then leave the fence dry completely before you apply the ready seal.

Step 4: Once the fence is dry, apply a ready seal with either a paintbrush, roller, or a pump sprayer.

Note: The beauty of a ready seal is that it is self-leveling so you do not have to worry about applying it even. The important thing is to get the stain on the whole fence. As it will soak in and create longer-lasting protection.

Step 5: Enjoy your fence! Once all the above is done, you don’t have to worry about it getting wet, as the water will bead off the fence within minutes.
